Glass ceilings? Closed doors? Not at JLL. We recognize the success and achievements of the amazing women throughout our firm. In celebration of Women’s History Month, we’d like to highlight a few of the strong, smart, and ambitious women of JLL. We appreciate them not only this month, but every day. We hope they inspire you like they inspire us.

Meet Vicki Robinson

Vicki is a Vice President in our Tenant Representation group. She specializes in portfolio lease management for corporate users. Her responsibilities include managing critical dates such as pending lease expirations and notice for expansion/termination options, market research and analysis, site evaluation and selection, strategic planning, implementation of corporate real estate strategy, and lease review/negotiations.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A teacher. I grew up with a long line of influence in this area – my mother, grandmother and five aunts were all teachers.

How did you get into commercial real estate?
A broker named John Pierson, who had just started to work for The Staubach Company, took a chance and hired me to do business development for him. Within two years, I was getting more involved in lease transaction work and here I am 18 years later, handling lease transactions for two major accounts in the Phoenix office.

What is a typical day for you?
The alarm goes off at 5 a.m. and I hit snooze at least twice. When I wake up, I respond to emails while drinking morning coffee then move on to conference calls, meetings, client tours, space planning sessions and back to emails. I usually stay late in the office each evening. I get a second wind around 5 p.m. and try to power through the day’s outstanding issues.

Who was the biggest influence in your life?
By far, my mother. She was my biggest supporter. She was an inspiration to me in how she lived her life. She touched so many people with her words of encouragement, her thoughtfulness and her smile.

What was the best advice you’ve ever received?
Always remember: you are who you are, even when you think no one is looking. Act with integrity.

How do you measure success?
Whether I am able to bring value to the equation, whether it is work related (going above and beyond client expectations) or family related (I try to make all the family gatherings special).

How do you achieve work/life balance?
I can’t say that I have achieved it, but I am sure trying. I try to carve out time on the weekends to totally unwind and do something non-work related. I love trying new recipes, working with flowers or watching Turner Classic movies.

How has JLL supported you as a woman in business?
I’ve been given the opportunity to work on two incredible accounts managing portfolios for State of Arizona and Banner Health. It has been an exciting opportunity to get to work with these clients.

If you wrote a book, what would the title be?
Boy, has my life taken a few left turns!
