BrokersForHopeTitleOn behalf of Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center,  JLL’s Senior Managing Director Dennis Desmond and Ryan Companies’ Chairman John Strittmatter have come together to create the Brokers for Hope fundraising initiative. Created to increase the level of the center’s awareness in the commercial real estate (CRE) industry, Brokers for Hope challenges CRE professionals to give in support of those living with cancer.

This year alone, nearly 1.7 million Americans, including almost 33,000 Arizonans, will hear the dreaded words, “You have cancer.” Roughly 600,000 will die from it. Within 16 years, cancer is expected to overtake cardiovascular disease as the No. 1 cause of death in the United States. Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center leverages the collective strengths of Arizona’s leading health-care provider and one of the nation’s top-two ranked cancer centers to wage war against cancer. Since opening in fall 2011, Banner MD Anderson has offered new hope to cancer patients and their families throughout Arizona and the Southwest.

Just four weeks old, the Brokers for Hope initiative is gaining momentum by hosting awareness events at some of the largest commercial real estate companies in Phoenix. Gifts from Brokers for Hope will support the Hope Starts Here Campaign, a $22 million fundraising endeavor to expand clinical research, targeted treatment programs and support for cancer patients and survivors.

“Being told ‘you have cancer’ is something that will happen to one out of every three women and one out of every two men,” said Desmond. “Luckily, we have the best doctors, facility and technology right here in our back yard. It is important to support Banner MD Anderson and their efforts, not just for us today, but for the future of our kids and grandchildren.”

As the Brokers for Hope initiative makes its way through the Phoenix commercial real estate community, fundraising goals are being given to each company. In recognition of support, Banner MD Anderson will name a Palo Verde tree in the cancer center’s Garden of Hope in honor of firms who meet fundraising goals. The trees will be a lasting tribute of commitment to supporting patients going through cancer treatment.
