When people think about giving, their minds often go towards well-known national organizations and while these organizations make a great impact on a national and global level, JLL Managing Director John Pierson and other Phoenicians saw a need to help at a very local level. Thus, Neighbors Helping Neighbors (NHN) was born in 2013.
A Scottsdale-based charity, Neighbors Helping Neighbors uses the strategic partnerships and pooled resources of its members to give a helping hand that many of our neighbors need but unfortunately can’t find elsewhere. NHN members pay annual dues to ensure that 100% of all funds donated are given to the individuals or charities selected.
While the focus is on local charities or individual families in need, the organization’s most prominent programs included:
- Shop with a Cop – A fundraiser to help underprivileged children purchase school supplies, essential house hold items and holiday items. In just the past two years, NHN has provided over 400 underprivileged kids with a special holiday that they would have never had.
- Honor Flight Happy Hours – Casual fundraisers to sponsor World War II veterans in a trip to Washington DC to be honored for their great sacrifices for this country. In the past, NHN has sponsored 80 of our heroes.
Members of Neighbors Helping Neighbors have also been involved in local food banks, animal rescues, construction of handicapped ramps, Adopt-a-Road and Ronald McDonald House Charities. Last year, John coordinated with the City of Scottsdale’s “Operation Fix-It” program to help several needy families repair their homes prior to being faced with fines by the City. These improvements made their homes more safe and attractive for the neighboring community.
NHN is now proud to announce that the AZ chapter of HSMAI (Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International) formally selected Neighbors Helping Neighbors as its 2017 Charity of the Year. NHN’s grassroots group will join a list of well known and well-respected charities who have been the recipient of this prestigious honor in the past. With their 300 plus members, HSMAI will be helping to support NHN’s efforts, both financially and with volunteers. The proceeds from their annual fundraiser for 2017 (on June 21st), will go directly to benefit NHN and its efforts in the community.
